Guides

Create an expert

Experts are collections of indexed documents that you can query using natural language. You can create private experts with your own documents or use the available public experts.

Types of experts

Public experts

Created and maintained by DOCU.expert. Include legislation, tax regulations and more. Available to all users.

Private experts

Created by you with your own documents. Only you can access them. Ideal for internal documentation, contracts, manuals, etc.

Create a private expert step by step

1

Create the expert

From the dashboard, click "New expert" or use the + button in the sidebar.

Configure your expert:

  • Name: A descriptive name (e.g.: "Employee handbook")
  • Description: Brief description of the content
  • Icon: Optional, for visual identification
2

Upload documents

Add the documents you want the expert to be able to query.

Supported formats:

.pdf.docx.txt.md.html.epub

File limit

The free plan allows up to 5 documents per expert and 10 MB per file. Paid plans increase these limits.

3

Wait for indexing

The system will automatically process the documents to create search indexes.

Approximate processing times:

  • 10-page document: ~30 seconds
  • 100-page document: ~2-3 minutes
  • 500+ page document: ~10-15 minutes

Ready to query

Once the documents are indexed, you can ask the expert questions in natural language and receive answers based on your document content.

Manage experts

Edit

Change the name, description or configuration of the expert at any time.

Add documents

Upload more documents to expand the expert's knowledge.

Delete

Delete the expert and all its documents. This action cannot be undone.

Best practices

Group related documents

Create thematic experts instead of a generic one. A "Labor contracts" expert will be more precise than an "All documents" one.

Use quality documents

PDFs with selectable text work better than scans or images. If you have scans, use OCR before uploading.

Update regularly

Add new versions of documents when they change. The system will automatically re-index.

Name descriptively

Use clear names for your experts and documents. This helps both you and the system understand the context.

Make effective queries

Once your expert is created, you can ask questions in several ways:

Direct questions

Ask what you need to know clearly and specifically.

"What is the notice period for dismissals according to the agreement?"

Request summaries

Ask for summaries of sections or complete documents.

"Summarize the main points of the vacation chapter"

Compare information

Compare different parts of the documents.

"Compare the conditions for fair and unfair dismissal"
